The study of literature is an enriching, eye – opening experience that fosters the development of new ideas, as well as an understanding of our shared history and culture. It enables the students to develop their own powers of expression, empathy and critical thinking grounded in a detailed and broad understanding of literary history. Our course provides students with advanced skills in reading, writing, presentation and all transferable skills that are valued by employers in the current market.

Admission Procedure: The student seeking admission for the BA course should submit the Application form duly filled in the college office. The application form can be bought from the college office by paying a fee of Rs.500/-or can be downloaded from the website.

Duration of the Course: 

The course shall extend over a period of three academic years consisting of six semesters.

Course : The curriculum of the BA programme is designed in such a way that it imparts to the students an effective literary mind which enables them to travel in the wings of imagination, incorporates in the students literary skills to attain myriad possibilities in the field of English Language, bestows in the students thought patterns which are variegated and multidimensional perspectives based, inserts in the students a sense of free and frank mindset to attain competencies related to different genres of literature, persuades the students to develop cross fertilization of ideas to look at literature from various angles and levels.

The first semester comprises foundation courses on BA such as  fine-tune your English which is intended to introduce the students to the basics of grammar, usage and effective communication and  Pearls from the Deep -to introduce students to the different genres of literature and to the niceties of literary expression, a second language, core subject- Methodology of Literary Studies to introduce the student to the major signposts in the historical evolution of literary studies from its inception to the current postcolonial realm and a complimentary course- Psychology.

The second semester has courses under the titles Issues that Matter, Savouring the Classics, Introducing Language and Literature, along with second language and a complimentary course- Psychology.

The third and fourth semesters have courses under the titles Illuminations, Modes of Fiction,

Language and Linguistics, Evolution of Literary Movements:  the Cross Currents of Change followed by a second language.

The fifth and sixth semesters have courses under the titles Acts on the Stage, Literary Criticism and Theory, Indian Writing in English, Environmental Science and Human Rights, Postcolonial Literatures, Women Writing, American Literature and Modern World Literature. The students begin with their project in the fifth semester. The option for Open Course is available in the fifth semester and Choice Based Course-Comparative Literatures is opted in the sixth semester. In the fifth semester itself the students will undergo training  for submitting their final project report in the MLA format.
