READING DAY
The National reading day is an annual event that falls on the death anniversary of P N Panicker, the father of ‘library movement in Kerala’ in order to encourage reading among students all over the country. The Department of English, KCMT, has celebrated the National Reading Day as a tribute to P N Panicker and conducted a book swapping event called Book Thief at the college library. Books were collected in advance from faculty members and students of various departments as part of the day observance. The event was inaugurated by Rev. Fr. Joshy Cheeramkuzhy CMI, Principal, KCMT, and Mr. Cijo Joseph Chennelil, Head of Department of English, KCMT, delivered a felicitation speech after swapping books between them.
Career Readiness Workshop
The Department of English, KCMT, with the initiative of Mr. Cijo Joseph Chennelil, HOD of English, has organized a Career Readiness Workshop on 25 July 2022 for final year BCA students. Mr. Roji Thomas, Head of the BCA Department, made all the arrangements for the smooth conduct of the programme in their department. Students were totally enthusiastic to learn the intricacies of Letter Writing, Resume Preparation and Group Discussion through the sessions handled by Ms. Veena Maria James, Ms Binitha Rose Benny and Jerin Ann Johny respectively.
IELTS Orientation Programme
The Department of English, KCMT, has organized an IELTS Orientation Programme in collaboration with Sargakhetra Academy and GeeBee Consultancy. Mr.Cijo Joseph Chennelil, HOD of English, KCMT, broached the importance of and relevance of Overseas education in the present scenario with other HODs of this college and made all the arrangements for the smooth conduct of the programme in other departments as well. Sargakhetra Team spend their valuable time and knowledge in this campus for two days and explained the relevance and emerging scope in overseas education. Brother Dominic on behalf of Sargakhetra Academy introduced the team members. Geebee consultancy representatives Ms. Aleena and Mr. David interacted with the students and responded to all their queries regarding immigration process, scholarships, so on and so forth.
WORLD PEACE DAY
Each year the International Day of Peace is observed around the world on 21 September. The 2022 theme for the International Day of Peace is “End racism. Build peace.” The Department of English, Kristu Jyoti College of Management and Technology in collaboration with IQAC observed the World Peace Day on September 21st with a Reels Making Competition.
WORLD FOOD DAY
The Department of English, Kristu Jyoti College observed World Food Day online on October 16 2022, by organising a Food Blogging Contest. The Principal of the college, Rev Fr Joshy Cheeramkuzhy CMI, was the chief patron. Students from various departments participated in the event. The students sent in write ups and videos of food and travel.
PHATOM GALA
The Department of English, KCMT, hosted an inter-departmental face-painting and costume contest to commemorate his birthday. PHATOM GALA was a bash of talent and creativity, where the students dressed themselves up in various costumes including fantasy and horror to recreate the gloomy Gothic ambience and mood among the audience. The students came out with their artistic best and creative ideas and participated enthusiastically unleashing their hidden potential. Our students decorated the seminar hall with spooky elements such as spiders, bats, witches, painted pumpkin etc.
WORLD KINDNESS DAY
The World Kindness Day is celebrated every year on November 13 to promote kindness throughout the world and is observed annually on November 13 as part of the World Kindness Movement. The English department of Kristu Jyoti College observed World Kindness Day on November 14 2022, by organising a charity visit. The Principal of the college, Rev. Fr. Joshy Cheeramkuzhy CMI, was the chief patron. Under the guidance of Head of the Department Mr. Cijo Joseph Chennelil the event was organized. One week prior to the day of observance students were asked to contribute enlisted essential items to the charity box provided to all the departments of the institution. Students from various departments contributed for this noble cause. The essential items donated by the fellow wards were segregated into different sections to handout to various charity homes in and around Changanassery.
CAREER COUNSELLING PROGRAMME
The English Department of the college organised a Career counselling session on 16 November 2022 to make students aware about various opportunities and trends in the field of language and literature after graduation. The Resource Person for the session was Dr. Sajeev Rose, former principal of Arts College, Trivandrum. The Head of the Department, Mr. Cijo Joseph welcomed and gave a brief introduction of the Resource Person. Dr. Sajeev Rose gave a brief introduction on the various opportunities and scope of language and literature in this digital era.
OPPORTUNITIES IN ANIMATION
A Career Guidance session was conducted on 17th January 2023 for the 2020-2023 batch B A English final year students of KJCMT from 2 pm to 3 pm in room no.108 of the English Department. The resource person of the session was Mr.Sreejith M, career guidance officer in MAAC. It was a vibrant, engaging and interactive session indeed. The resource person was introduced to the students by the HoD of the English Department of KJCMT, Mr.Cijo Joseph Chennelil. The entire session was conducted in an interactive manner where each participant was encouraged to share the viewpoint/opinion and their experiences.
CAREER GUIDANCE
English Department of KCMT organised a Career Guidance programme under the auspices of the IQAC of the college on 11th January 2023 from 12-15 pm to 1-15 pm in room no:108 of the English Department to motivate and transform our students. It was attended by the Sixth and Third semester students. The resource person of the programme was Mr. George C Thayil, T.I.M.E Adoor. It was presided over by the HoD of the English Department of KCMT Mr. Cijo Joseph. It helped the students to identify their real potential, talents and inclination to choose a career for a better future. It was an exceptional session indeed.
CAREER CUNSELLING PROGRAMME
A career guidance programme was organized by the Department of English in association with IQAC for the final year students of BA English. The session was led by Ms Arya Mukesh, General Manager of Insight International Study Abroad. Insight international is an emerging overseas education consultancy which functions with a team of experienced hands. The session began at 2.30 pm on 17th February, 2022. Ms Arya Mukesh gave an insightful talk and has talked in length about opportunities in various countries abroad. The students have actively participated in the session.
ICT PROGRAMME
The Department of English in association with IQAC conducted an ICT Orientation Class on the topic “MS Word and Its Application” on February 15, 2023 at Lab No 1 from 3PM to 4PM. The resource person for the day was Mrs Archana S, Assistant Professor, Post Graduate Department of Commerce, KCMT. She has given the students an awareness on MS word and its different applications that helped them acquire the basics skills to handle computer data and documents.
ICT PROGRAMME
The Department of English in association with IQAC has organized an ICT Training Programme on Privacy concerns in social media data propagation and preservation for the BA English final year students in Room No 108 at 9.30 am on 22nd February,2023. The resource person for the day was Rev Fr Akhil Thomas CMI, Assistant Professor of Post Graduate Department of Computer Science, KCMT. Fr Alex has given the students an awareness on Social Media Privacy issues and helped them acquire an understanding about various threats associated with the same.
Language Skill Training
The Department of English in association with IQAC conducted a Language Skill Training session for the BA English Language & Literature students on the topic "Art of Presentation & Public Speaking" on Thursday 23rd February 2023 from 10 am to 11 am. The programme envisaged to help the students in recognising their real potential, talents and boost these innate capabilities that are dormant and inactive, for a better future. The resource person used various group activities, games, and open discussions with the prime objective of providing a safe platform to students so that they can express themselves, learn certain forms of interactions, and use the target language without fear.
SOFT SKILL TRAINING
The soft skill training programme Cutlery and Knife skills was organised by the department of English on 14/2/22 at 2 pm in room no 108. The students of Semester 6 BA English participated in the activity. Mr. Steve Sunnichan and Ms Dhiya Kurian, students of Semester 6 served as the resource persons. The students were introduced to various cutlery skills and dining etiquette. The students were taught different fruit cutting styles. A fruit salad was prepared using the cut fruits and served to the participants. The session was beneficial to the students.
“Pranayama and Stress Relief”
A life skills training session on “Pranayama and Stress Relief” was organised for the students of the English department on 16 February 2023 at 2 pm. The students of sem 6 BA English participated in it. Mr Anand George was the resource person. The programme was divided into two sections. It began with an introductory session on the benefits of pranayama. The students were taught how to manage stress through this yogic practice. The second session was a practical session. The students were taught a few exercises pranayama. The students found the session an enlightening one.
PROBLEM SOLVING SKILL
A problem solving skill development session was held as an activity of the English association programme on 16 February 2023 from 3 pm to 4pm. The students of Semester 6 BA English were taught the various nuances of chess and the technique to solve the 3*3 Rubik's cube. Mr Antony Joseph was the resource person for chess. He taught how chess can improve attention and concentration and also improve critical thinking.
SOFT SKILL TRAINING
The Department of English in association with IQAC has organized an Softskill Training Programme on Time and Stress management for the BA English students in Room No 108 from 3PM to 4pm on 09 February 2023. The resource person for the day was Mr. Jijo P John, Assistant Professor, Post Graduate Department of Management, KCMT. He gave the students valuable insights on how to manage and prioritize the available time and work to reduce the stress effectively. His session was exceptionally good and our students were immensely benefited by this tremendous, incredible and informative venture.
RADIO DAY
To commemorate the journey of Radio over decades, English Department of KCMT, in association with IQAC, celebrated ‘World Radio Day’ on February 13th by hosting a programme "Sound of Peace” in Radio KCMT. Our radio enthusiasts of final year BA English, presented a mini audio drama live on Air dedicated to spread awareness about the power of the audio medium. RJ KCMT, Alita Mariam Varghese hosted a half an hour show "Sound of Peace" and chatted about radio and peace building and entertained the whole campus with melodious music of peace. The day concluded with an understanding that radio is a sole broadcast medium that continues to entertain us
STREET PLAY
The Department of English in association IQAC has organized a street play “Sathyameva Jayate” in connection with World day of Social Justice. The day was commemorated on 20th February 2023 with the performance of a street play of thematic significance by the students of English department.. The students have made posters and placards emphasising the importance of the day. The enactment stood as a voice against the prevailing social injustice and was as an attempt to spur the young minds to curb the evil of social injustice.
Gender Equity Programme-"Basic Self Defence Techniques"
The Department of English in association with IQAC conducted a Gender Equity Programme on "Basic Self Defence Techniques" on Tuesday 22 February 2023 from 3 pm to 4 pm at indoor Stadium. The resource person for the day was Ms. Ansu Mary Saji, the final year B.Com Computer Application Student of KCMT. She is an International Book of Records Holder, Kung fu First Dan black belt and State Kung fu champion. Her session was exceptionally good and our students were immensely benefited by this tremendous, incredible and informative venture.
CAREER COUNSELLING PROGRAMME
English Department of KJCMT organised a Career Guidance programme on TOFEL Exam under the auspices of the IQAC of the college on 02 March 2023 from 10 am to 11am in room no:108 of the English Department. It was attended by the Sixth semester students. The resource person of the programme was Mr. Akshai Suresh, CMO, Team Education. It was presided over by the HoD of the English Department of KJCMT Mr. Cijo Joseph. The resource person who is in the field of abroad studies for more than 3 years, effectively gave Orientation on TOEFL and its specifications to crack it with high scores. Students were also given counselling and awareness about countries of their choice. The staff-coordinator of the programme was Mrs. Jerin Ann Johny. It was an exceptional session indeed.
