The "Koode" program, organized by the PG Department of Social Work from Kristu Jyoti College of Management and Technology, was a community initiative aimed at supporting dialysis patients in the Vazhoor Panchayat. The program involved the distribution of dialysis kits to patients in need, which were made possible through a fundraising initiative. "Koode," meaning "together", encapsulates the spirit of community collaboration and mutual support that underpinned this event. This distribution aimed to alleviate the burden faced by dialysis patients in accessing essential supplies and to promote awareness about kidney health and the importance of community solidarity in addressing healthcare challenges. The event took place on 8th November 2024 in the Vazhoor Panchayat office, with the participation of dialysis patients, their families, local healthcare workers, and panchayat members. The PG Department of Social Work played a pivotal role in organizing the event. The Koode program was a resounding success, fulfilling its objectives of providing dialysis kits to patients in need and raising awareness about kidney health. The event highlighted the power of community engagement in addressing healthcare challenges and demonstrated how collaborative efforts can make a tangible difference in the lives of vulnerable populations. By empowering the dialysis patients of Vazhoor Panchayat with the necessary tools for their treatment, the program helped improve their quality of life while strengthening the spirit of community support and togetherness.
The Mizhiv program was a cultural event organized by the Social Work students from Kristu Jyoti College of Management and Technology in collaboration with Jeevodaya Disability Center. This initiative aimed to promote inclusivity, empowerment, and social interaction through various artistic performances, cultural activities, and entertainment designed specifically for the students of the center. The name “Mizhiv,” which translates to “a spark”, signifies the goal of igniting joy, creativity, and self-expression among the participants. The event took place on 7th November 2024 at the Jeevodaya Disability Center. It was attended by the disabled students, their caregivers, staff members of Jeevodaya, and social work students. Mizhiv was a heartwarming cultural celebration that brought the disabled students of Jeevodaya Disability Center together in a vibrant and inclusive environment. The event successfully met its objectives of fostering inclusivity, boosting the self-esteem of the students, and promoting cultural awareness.This program not only celebrated the talents of the disabled students but also emphasized the importance of providing platforms for marginalized communities to express themselves. The success of Mizhiv has laid the foundation for future programs aimed at inclusivity and empowerment.
On November 2, as part of a fieldwork initiative, PG Department of Social Work conducted an enriching community program, inaugurating an open library named "Vinjananidhi" at St. Rita's Hospital. The primary aim of this initiative was to create a more meaningful waiting experience for patients and visitors during their time in the Outpatient (OP) area. By providing access to a selection of books, the program sought to offer a productive and enjoyable way for patients to spend their waiting hours. By creating a welcoming and intellectually stimulating space, this project reflects the positive impact that well-planned social work can have on individuals and communities alike. The successful inauguration of Vinjananidhi exemplifies how collaborative efforts and compassionate planning can turn small ideas into meaningful, life-enhancing services. The program also showcased the potential of community-focused initiatives in healthcare settings, underscoring the importance of mental well-being alongside physical care. Hospital staff and faculty acknowledged the program’s positive impact on patient satisfaction, reinforcing the value of empathy-driven social work interventions.
The "Wealth from Waste" competition was organized by the PG Department of Social Work for the students of Government High School, Kunnumpuram, on 24th October 2024. The primary objective of this initiative was to inspire students to think creatively and critically about waste management and environmental sustainability. The event aimed to encourage young minds to explore innovative ways of recycling waste materials into valuable and functional products. The event was held for the students of Government High School, Kunnumpuram, who were actively encouraged to participate in the competition. Over 16 students from 7th and 8th standard took part, contributing a range of ideas and creations. The “Wealth from Waste” competition proved to be a successful initiative in raising awareness about waste management and sustainability. The students of Government High School, Kunnumpuram, demonstrated their creativity and resourcefulness in transforming waste into valuable products. The event not only enhanced the students’ understanding of recycling but also sparked a sense of environmental responsibility within the school community. Such programs play a crucial role in nurturing eco-conscious citizens, and the PG Department of Social Work is proud to have hosted this meaningful event.
