RURAL CAMP ‘BHOOMIKA'
The PG Department of Social Work organized a five-day rural camp ‘BHOOMIKA’ at Kulathupuzha Panchayat, Kollam, with a focus on two distinct communities: the migrant community from Sri Lanka at Rehabilitation Plantation Ltd (RPL) and the Kadamankod tribal community. The camp aimed to provide students with hands-on experience in rural community development, focusing on understanding and addressing the challenges faced by marginalized groups. The camp took place from 25th November 2024 to 30th November 2024 and it provided a platform for social work students to engage with these communities and contribute towards their socio-economic Development. Through these rural camp students to gain practical insights into community dynamics, socio-cultural backgrounds, and the challenges faced by marginalized groups. The students engaged with community members through house visits, orientations, and participatory studies to understand the realities of life in these communities.
Key Objective of the Camp

RURAL CAMP BHUMIKA 2.0
The PG Department of Social Work organized a five-day rural camp, Bhumika 2.0, as part of the first-semester university curriculum in the coastal area of Pozhiyoor, Thiruvananthapuram District, from 29th September to 3rd October 2025. The camp aimed to provide students with practical exposure to rural and coastal life while promoting social awareness, environmental responsibility, and community engagement.
The camp was inaugurated in the presence of faculty members, local dignitaries, and community representatives. During the five days, students actively participated in socio-economic surveys, awareness programmes, field visits, cultural interactions, and environmental initiatives, including engagement with school students, Self Help Group members, and local residents. These activities enabled students to understand the socio-economic conditions and developmental challenges of the community.
Reflective and interactive sessions were conducted to help students share their observations and learning experiences. The camp concluded with a valedictory function, marking the successful completion of the programme.
Overall, Bhumika 2.0 offered meaningful experiential learning, strengthened teamwork and leadership skills, and fostered a strong sense of social responsibility among students, while enhancing the institution’s connection with the local community.
