The PG Department of Social Work at Kristu Jyoti College of Management and Technology conducted an observation visit to TRADA Integrated Rehabilitation Centre for Addicts (IRCA) on 9th September 2024 at 10:00 am.TRADA is a specialized facility focused on helping individuals overcome addiction to alcohol, drugs, and other substances. The center aims to provide both medical and psychological support to individuals in a structured and nurturing environment. The primary objective of this visit was to observe the operations, services, and patient care at TRADA, a center specializing in the rehabilitation of individuals struggling with addiction. The goal was to gain insight into the programs offered, the facilities, and the overall impact of the center’s approach to de-addiction. This visit was organized to provide students with practical exposure to addiction treatment and rehabilitation processes. The students were introduced to the holistic approach TRADA employs to rehabilitate individuals struggling with substance abuse, with a special focus on community participation, medical care, and counseling.
On 9th September 2024, the PG Department of Social Work from Kristu Jyoti College of Management and Technology organized an observation visit to the Mundakapadam Mandirams Society. The visit aimed to provide students with real-world exposure to the functioning and activities of a community-based organization, thereby bridging theoretical knowledge with practical insights. Mundakapadam Mandirams Society is a community-based organization with a dedicated Home for Senior Citizens that caters to elderly individuals who lack family support or financial resources. The home provides not only shelter but also a holistic range of services, including medical care, recreational activities, and emotional support. The society’s vision is to ensure that elderly individuals live with dignity, respect, and access to basic needs in their twilight years. The visit reinforced the importance of social work in institutions that care for vulnerable populations, particularly the elderly. it highlighted the critical role of social work interventions in addressing the multifaceted needs of the elderly, ranging from healthcare to emotional and social support.
On 16th October 2024, the students of the Postgraduate Department of Social Work from Kristu Jyoti College of Management and Technology visited Mercy Home, an institution dedicated to providing care and support to children with physical disabilities. This visit was aimed at providing first hand experience of how organizations care for differently-abled children and how social workers can contribute in improving their lives. Mercy Home is a well-established institution that caters to children with various physical challenges, including cerebral palsy, muscular dystrophy, and other congenital disabilities. The institution offers a safe, nurturing environment that emphasizes the holistic development of children. The visit to Mercy Home was an eye-opening experience for the students of the PG Department of Social Work. It provided valuable insights into the day-to-day operations of an institution for children with physical disabilities and the essential role of social work in such settings. The visit reinforced the importance of empathy, patience, and teamwork in addressing the needs of differently-abled children.
The PG Department of Social Work at Kristu Jyoti College of Management and Technology conducted an observation visit to Sargakshetra on 12th November 2024 at 2.00 M.Ths. visit aimed to provide students with an understanding of the interdisciplinary work undertaken by the centre, which integrates cultural activities, community welfare programs, and educational initiatives. The centre offers a platform for cultural expression, provides charitable services to underprivileged communities, and supports educational advancements through various academic programs and initiatives. The organization believes in creating a harmonious balance between preserving cultural heritage, offering social services, and providing academic support. The visit also sought to showcase the role of social work in promoting community development through a blend of cultural and academic efforts. Sargakshetra plays a pivotal role in the cultural, creative, artistic and behavioural development of people, irrespective of caste and religion. Sargakshetra is the breeding ground of the creative talents of the young generation and to train people for a holistic development of their creative and communicative talents in order to create a value-based, just and peaceful Society. The program received an enthusiastic response from graduating social work students, who actively engaged in the event.
5. St. Thomas Hospital
The PG Department of Social Work at Kristu Jyoti College of Management and Technology conducted an observation visit to St. Thomas Hospital Chethipuzha on 12th November 2024 at 2.00 PM. The aim of the visit is to understand the role of the hospital in the health care delivery and also the role social workers in health care system. The program started with a welcome speech by TSW Jithin John. After the welcome speech Mr Paul Sebastian, PRO of the hospital gave the orientation about the role of social workers in the hospital setting and also about his experiences as a PRO in the hospital. After that Mr Sebin Sebastian, project manager gave the details about different departments of the hospital and also about the service available in the Hospital. After the session the students were able to conduct a visit to different departments of the Hospital and learn about the Health Care Delivery system in the St. Thomas Hospital. The visit was concluded with a Vote thanks by TSW Anagha.
