Entrepreneurship Program
The Workshop on Honey Bee Rearing was successfully conducted on 16th December 2025 at Alitta Honey Farm, Changanassery, by the PG Department of Social Work in association with the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), Kristu Jyoti College of Management and Technology. The programme was conducted in offline mode with the participation of 28 students. The workshop was coordinated by Ms. Santhi Krishna S.
The programme aimed to provide students with practical exposure to apiculture as a sustainable livelihood and entrepreneurial activity, in alignment with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG 3 – Good Health and Well-being). Upon arrival at the farm, participants were warmly welcomed by the resource persons, followed by an orientation session highlighting the ecological importance of honey bees, their role in pollination, and their contribution to rural income generation. Students were introduced to the basic concepts of apiculture, including types of honey bees, hive structure, tools and equipment, and safety measures.
Hands-on demonstrations were conducted on hive management, honey extraction, maintenance of bee colonies, and disease control. Special emphasis was placed on the economic viability of honey bee rearing as a small-scale enterprise, motivating students to consider it as a self-employment option. The interactive nature of the workshop enabled students to clarify doubts and actively engage with the resource persons. The session concluded with discussions on marketing of honey and related products, government support schemes, and the role of youth in promoting sustainable agricultural practices. Overall, the workshop served as a valuable experiential learning opportunity, integrating environmental awareness, health benefits, and entrepreneurial skill development.
