Session on “Understanding Trauma and its Impact”
Post Graduate Department of Psychology in association with IQAC of Kristu Jyoti College of Management and Technology, Changanacherry organised a Session on Understanding Trauma and its Impact on 17th October 2022. Mr. Nithin Lalachan, Consultant Psychologist, Mind Solution Clinic, Thiruvalla was the resource person.The outcome of the program was to create an insight into the meaning of trauma and its impact, to create an awareness on various traumas and ways to help a person come out of trauma.
Session on “World TB Day”
The Department of Psychology in association with the Internal Quality Assurance Cell observed World TB Day on 24th March, 2023. The department conducted an awareness class on TB disease that was given by Postgraduate students of the Department of Psychology. The class centered on causes, diagnosis, warning signs and preventive measures of TB disease. The awareness class was helpful in raising awareness among the students.
World Diabetes Day observation
The Post Graduate Department of Psychology in association with IQAC, Kristu Jyoti College of Management and Technology conducted an awareness class on 14 November 2022 at 3:00 PM on the occasion of “World Diabetes Day” which is observed every year. The theme of World Diabetes Day 2022 by Pan American Health Organization, is “Education to Protect Tomorrow,” which calls on the need to strengthen access to quality education on diabetes both for the health team and for people living with diabetes, their caregivers, and society in general.
World Day Against Child Labour
The department of psychology in association with the Internal Quality Assurance Cell commemorated World Day Against Child Labour on 13-June-2022. The programme emphasized on giving Insight about child labour in India. In addition, it was aimed to bring awareness to students about the measures to take to prevent child labour. A poster Exhibition was conducted by psychology department which consisted of 100 posters against child labour. The program of the day winded up during the noon time by playing flash mob by 2nd year psychology students followed by speech based on the theme against child labour.
World Cancer Day observation
The Post Graduate Department of Psychology in association with IQAC, Kristu Jyoti College of Management and Technology conducted a Cancer ward visit at St. Thomas Hospital, Chethipuzha on 4 February 2023 on the occasion of “World Cancer Day” which is observed every year. The theme of World Diabetes Day 2023 is “Close the care gap,” which is about understanding the inequities in cancer care and taking actions to make the necessary progress to address them.
World Alzheimer’s Day
The department of psychology in association with the Internal Quality Assurance Cell commemorated World Alzheimer’s Day on 22nd September, 2022. The department had conducted an awareness class on Alzheimer’s disease that was given by Postgraduate students of the department of psychology. The class centered on diagnosis, the warning signs of dementia along with Alzheimer’s disease. The awareness class was helpful in raising awareness among the students.
Webinar on “Creating Hope Through Action”
The Post Graduate Department of Psychology in association with IQAC, Kristu Jyoti College of Management and Technology conducted a webinar on 10 September 2022 at 6:30 PM on the occasion of “World Suicide Prevention Day” which is observed every year. The theme of World Suicide Prevention Day (WSPD) 2022, is “Creating hope through action,” which reflects the need for collective, action to address this urgent public health issue. The session was handled by Vishnu V. The main objective of this programme was to promote stakeholder collaboration and self-empowerment to address self-harm and suicide through preventative action.
National Farmers Day
The Postgraduate Department of Psychology in association with the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of Kristu Jyoti College of Management & Technology observed National Farmers Day on 20th December 2022. As part of the observance of this day,the seeds of various vegetables were distributed to all the Heads of different Departments of the college. This was done with the aim of cultivating the habit of the commencement of kitchen gardens at the homes of students and faculty members of the college alike.
National Epilepsy Day Observation
The Post Graduate Department of Psychology in association with Indian Medical Association Kottayam Branch & IQAC of Kristu Jyoti College of Management and Technology, Changanacherry organized a Seminar as part of “National Epilepsy Day Observation” on 22nd November 2022, at 2.00 pm. Dr. Ganesh Kumar, Secretary, IMA Kottayam Branch was the resource person. The outcome of the program was to create an insight into the condition of epilepsy and to provide awareness on what is to be done when a person is affected with it.
National Doctors Day
The department of psychology in association with the Internal Quality Assurance Cell commemorated National Doctors Day 01-July 2022. The motto of the programme was to make the student aware and realize the great duties and the role of the doctors in society. Representatives of the student community of the Department of Psychology, under the leadership of head of the department (HoD) visited the Primary Health Center (PHC) located in Village named Cheeranchira,Vazhappally Panchayath, Kottayam district Kerala,india. The program paid respect to the doctorals community of the PHC and honored their wholehearted and valuable service to the people of that village. The program remarked on the excellent service of the doctors community during the period of Covid pandemic. The senior surgeon of the PHC has expressed their deep gratitude for remembering the day.
International Stress Awareness Day
Post Graduate Department of Psychology in association with IQAC of Kristu Jyoti College of Management and Technology, Changanacherry organized a Seminar Cum Training Session on Pranayama as a part of “International Stress Awareness Day” on 7th November 2022. Yogasadhak: K Sankaran, Director, Swamy Vivekanandha Yoga Vidhyapeedam, Kottayam was the resource person. The students were given training on Pranayama. The session was highly beneficial for the student community.
International Day for Older Persons
The Post Graduate Department of Psychology in association with IQAC, Kristu Jyoti College of Management and Technology conducted an old age home visit on 30th September, 2022 at 11.15 am on the occasion of “International Day for Older Persons'' which is observed every year on October 1, 2022. The theme of International Day for Older Persons in 2022, was “Resilience of Older Persons in a Changing World” to celebrate the lives of our senior citizens, while highlighting both the opportunities and the challenges that aging presents. All students got the opportunity to have a face-to-face talk with the residents of the home from diverse backgrounds and students performed some cultural activities along with residents. Interacting with them made the students know about their past, the hardships they were enduring in life and their experiences. The students were sensitized towards the needs of the elderly. The elderly blessed the students and expressed their gratitude for paying them a visit.
Global Handwashing Day, Awareness Class
The Post Graduate Department of Psychology in association with IQAC, Kristu Jyoti College of Management and Technology conducted an awareness class on 17 October 2022 at 2.00 PM on the occasion of “Global Handwashing Day” which is observed every year. The theme of Global Handwashing Day 2022, is “Unite for safety Clean your hands,” which reflects the need for collective action to address this urgent public health issue. The main objective of this programme was to increase adherence to hand hygiene in children, thus protecting children from infections. The talker provided an interactive and informative session about the steps for proper hand washing.
1. Panic Attack Awareness Session
The Post Graduate Department of Psychology in association with IQAC, Kristu Jyoti College of Management and Technology conducted an awareness class on 11 July 2023 at 2:00 PM on the occasion of 10 July marks as National Panic Awareness Day, which has been set aside to create greater awareness around the debilitating condition where sufferers often experience feelings of anxiety and panic, often with no specific trigger. The awareness session was handled by Ms. Annu Ann Abraham and Ms. Needhumol Thomas, second year M.Sc. Psychology students, KJCMT to the second year B.Sc. Psychology students. Total of 71 participants were taking part in the awareness class. The objective of this program was to discuss different symptoms of Panic attack in detail, based on DSM 5 criteria. The session ended up as a question and answer session. The programme witnessed an enthusiastic response from the students, who actively participated in the event. The majority of the participants found the information provided during the session highly relevant which provided new light towards the panic attack condition. The Panic Attack Awareness Session achieved its objectives and had a positive impact on the participating students. Some notable outcomes and impacts of the event include:the programme enabled students to gain a deeper understanding of the Panic Attack condition.The programme enabled students to deal with conditions in real life if they face Panic Attack conditions. In addition to panic attack condition detailing, the speakers discussed DSM 5, based on which the psychological diagnosis and treatments are formulated.
2.Suicide prevention- Poster exhibition
The Post Graduate Department of Psychology in association with IQAC, Kristu Jyoti College of Management and Technology organized a poster exhibition on 11th September 2023 on the occasion of World Suicide Prevention Day observed on 10th September 2023. The posters for the exhibition were the collective contribution of the students from all three years of BSc. and the first year of MSc Psychology. The posters collected were exhibited on the college portico for the college students. Along with the poster exhibition, a support campaign was also held by the department. The students of the college were given the opportunity to mark their support by signing their support on the poster exhibited at the college portico. The poster exhibition was taken by the students enthusiastically. The exhibition enabled the students to have increased awareness of suicide prevention and to have additional knowledge on suicides and their prevention.
3. Understanding Alzheimer’s: A Path Towards Awareness and Support
On the occasion of Alzheimer’s day, an exhibition was held at the college main entrance showcasing both handwritten and printed charts prepared by students. Charts portrayed informative content about Alzheimer’s disease and suggestions for supporting those affected. The seminar commenced with a warm welcome to the resource person by Ms. Meethu Mary George, highlighting the significance of raising awareness about Alzheimer’s. A knowledgeable resource person, Ms. Suma M. Abraham, Zoology research scholar from S. B. College delivered an insightful presentation. The topics covered included the biology of Alzheimer’s, its symptoms, progression, available diagnosis and treatment, and attitude towards the patient. The program threw light at the difficulties faced by the patients and their relatives in this particular disease and how the various causal factors play a role in its development. The students found this to be a very fruitful session and developed considerable knowledge and helping attitude towards those in need.
4.Mental Health Day
The Post Graduate Department of Psychology in association with IQAC, Kristu Jyoti College of Management and Technology organized a flash mob on 10th October2023 on the occasion of World Mental Health Day observed on 10th October 2023. The students of first year Bsc Psychology. A flash mob was conducted by first semester BSC psychology students at the college portico. Mental health and wellness, as well as our thoughts, are vital to the quality of our lives, relationships, and day-to-day lives. Through an array of steps, students have captured the attention of the college campus to disseminate awareness of the topic “Mental health is a universal human right”. The department utilized this campaign to emphasize that mental health is a human right that should not be stigmatized. Toward the end of the flash mob, an announcement was made by our students that highlighted subjects such as what mental health is and its significance. The encounter also emphasized people's right to mental health. Ms Meenakshy P Nair from Final Year Msc Psychology gave the students a speech on the importance of mental health and everyone's right to mental well-being. During lunch break, Veenus Anna Idicula of MSc first year delivered a college level announcement about the significance of the day and mental health. The program received a lot of attention and was entertaining. The announcement shed light on the significance of mental health. The outcome of the programme was to create awareness about mental health and its importance among college students.
5.World Mental Health Week Observance- Mental health awareness class
The Post Graduate Department of Psychology in association with IQAC, Kristu Jyoti College of Management and Technology conducted a survey on 07 and 09 October 2023 on the occasion of 10 October which marks as World Mental Health Day, which has been set aside to improve knowledge, raise awareness and drive actions that promote and protect everyone's mental health as a universal human right. The 2023 theme of World Mental Health Day is “Mental health is a universal human right”. A survey was planned with a question “Do you think your mental health is important?” The survey was handled by 66 students of third years UG students. Students conducted the survey at 29 classes of KJCMT of 1028 students. After the self-introduction and sufficient instructions, the students were asked to mention the opinion of “Yes” or “No” in the pre-prepared response sheet to the question asked. The result came out as 82% of students are aware of their mental health.
