English Department offered an innovative course titled “Bridge Course”. The course was extended to the newly admitted students in the first year 2018-2021 batch to get them acquainted with the various aspects related to English Language and Literature prior to the commencement of their formal classes. In fact, the course was aimed at revitalising the academic proficiency of students in relation to English Language and Literature studies in general and English communication acquisition skill in particular.
English Department conducted an Intra-Departmental competition title Inspirus 2019 on 25th January 2019. The competitions were held on events such as Word Digger (Word competition), Golden lyre (poetry writing competition), Fabula (Essay writing competition), Fantasy (short story writing competition), Vibrances (Elocution competition), Regalia (Fancy Dress competition), Paragon (Skit), Gun Shot (quiz), Maze Runner (Treasure Hunt), The love of Lyrics (Western Music), Dumbstruck (Dumb Charade ) and Lyrical Ballad(Group Recitation).The competitions were inaugurated by Rev. Fr. Joshy Cheeramkuzhy CMI, Principal KCMT, and presided over by Mr. Cijo Joseph Chennelil (HOD Of the English Department, KCMT).at the end of the competitions, cash prizes were distributed to the First, Second and Third prize holders with respect to each event.
The Training in Language Skills for the second semester students of the Department of English which was introduced to improve the language skills of the students, began by the mid of January 2019. Under the guidance of Shri. Cijo Joseph, HOD, Department of English, several sessions of language training, including games, individual activities and group activities were conducted for a time span of two and a half months. Students were also assessed based on their individual performances. Assessment sheet was prepared to analyse the improvement shown by the students. The training in language skills has enabled students to conquer their stage fear and to skim and scan through the areas where language acquisition is mandatory. This basic step in skill acquisition can make them prepare and modify themselves to perfection in the course of time.
Dr. V.C. Harrris memorial Lectures had been inaugurated by Mr. Josy Joseph, Associate Professor, S.B College Changanassery on 11th October 2018. He was also one of the closest associates of late V.C Harris. The formal function was presided over by Rev.Fr.Joshy Cheeramkuzhy CMI, Principal, Kristu Jyoti College. The disciples of Dr.V.C Harris, Mr.Cijo Joseph and Mr.Binu Sir shared their memories about V.C Harris on this occasion. Mr.Josy Joseph in his keynote address unearthed all aspects concerning the life and career of Dr.V.C Harris.
