UNNAT BHARAT ABHIYAN
The conceptualization of Unnat Bharat Abhiyan started with the initiative of a group of dedicated faculty members of Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi working for long in the area of rural development and appropriate technology. The concept was nurtured through wide consultation with the representatives of a number of technical institutions, Rural Technology Action Group (RuTAG) coordinators, voluntary organizations and government agencies, actively involved in rural development work, during a National workshop held at IIT Delhi in September, 2014. The workshop was sponsored by Council for Advancement of People’s Action and Rural Technology (CAPART), Ministry of Rural Development, Govt. of India. The program was formally launched by the Ministry of Education (MoE) (formerly Ministry Human Resource Development (MHRD)) in presence of The President of India on 11th November, 2014.
Unnat Bharat Abhiyan is inspired by the vision of transformational change in rural development processes by leveraging knowledge institutions to help build the architecture of an Inclusive India.
The Mission of Unnat Bharat Abhiyan is to enable higher educational institutions to work with the people of rural India in identifying development challenges and evolving appropriate solutions for accelerating sustainable growth. It also aims to create a virtuous cycle between society and an inclusive academic system by providing knowledge and practices for emerging professions and to upgrade the capabilities of both the public and the private sectors in responding to the development needs of rural India.

Activity I : Orientation Programme on UBA
The orientation programme on UBA was held on 30th January 2024.The programme started at 12:00 pm, via Google Meet. Mr Akhil G.S, Project Coordinator, Unnat Bharat Abhiyan, Kerala Agricultural University, Thrissur was the speaker of the programme. The speaker described about the Unnat Bharat Abhiyan(UBA) programme and the methods to proceed in it.28 first year volunteers and four faculties were present for the meeting. We also came to know about how an institution can be part of it. Using seed money we can complete household and village survey and the activities can be reported on UBA portal. Through continuous assessment of the activities to be adopted in a particular area ,organize training for the rural population by using the technologies developed from the institution.
Activity II : HOUSEHOLD SURVEY INAUGURATION Madappally Gramapanchayath
The first survey of UBA(Unnat Bharat Abhiyan) was held on 5th March 2024. Out of assigned five places we started the survey from Madappally. The inauguration was on 10:00 am at Madappally Panchayath. 11th ward of Madappally Panchayath was on chosen for survey. The speaker of UBA inaugration was Ms. Maniamma Rajappan who is the president of Madappally grama panchayath and ward member of 11 th ward.Principal Rev. Dr Joshy Cheeramkuzhy CMI addressed during UBA inauguration and he instructed how to conduct the household survey. Dr Anu Antony IQAC Coordinator gave a felicitation.By 11 am survey has been started by student coordinators.
Activity III : HOUSEHOLD SURVEY INAUGURATION Thrickodithanam Gramapanchayath
UBA household survey inauguration was held at Thrickodithanam gramapanchayat on behalf of Gramapanchayat president and ward member, Mrs. K.N Suvarnakumari and Mrs. Princy Rajesh on 12th March 2024. Household survey was inaugurated by Panchayat President Mrs. K.N Suvarnakumari and she also delivered the inaugural address. Felicitation was delivered by the ward member Mrs. Princy Rajesh. Mrs. Sanila P.S the development standing committee chairperson of Thrickodithanam gramapanchayat was also present. The UBA staff coordinators of kristu Jyoti College was also part of the inaugural ceremony/ Diya N.R a student volunteer delivered the words of gratitude. After the inaugural ceremony, student volunteers started their survey by visiting every houses in Thrickodithanam Gramapanchayth.
Activity IV : SNEHA JYOTHI – Distribution of Diapers to differently abled children of BRC, Madappally, Changanacherry
On the 3rd of April 2024, the UBA volunteers of Kristu Jyoti College visited Block Resource Centre(BRC) Madapally to distrubute diapers to differently abled students. The inauguration ceremony took place at 11:00 AM at Block Resource Centre Madapally, where Mr. K.J Prasad , the DPC, SSK of Kottayam, delivered a speech. Additionally, Principal Rev. Dr Joshy Cheeramkuzhy CMI addressed the gathering and Mr. Binu Abraham,DPO,SSK of Kottayam distributed diapers to the differently abled Students. Rev. Dr. Joshy Cheeramkuzhy CMI gave an introduction about the UBA activities of Kristu Jyoti College. 6 differently abled students and their parents were present for the meeting. Diapers and medical aids were distributed to the children.
Activity V : SNEHA JYOTHI – Distribution of grocery kits in Nakral – Changancherry part of Thrickodithanam Gramapanchayath
On the 27th of March 2024, we visited Paippad Grama Panchayat to provide grocery kits based on the needs of the local residents. The inauguration ceremony took place at 2:00 PM at Nakral, Changanacherry part of Paippad Grama Panchayath, where Shainy Jojo, the Vice President of the Panchayath, delivered a speech. Our College Principal Rev. Dr. Joshy Cheeramkuzhy CMI addressed the gathering and distributed 37 grocery kits to the residents of the 15th ward. Following the ceremony, the student coordinators began the survey at 3:00 PM. After the survey coordinators had the opportunity to enjoy a beaked boat ride.
Unnat Bharat Abhiyan (UBA) cell of Kristu Jyoti college successfully organized “AAGAAZ”, a vibrant and engaging cultural programme aimed at welcoming new members into the community. Held on 23rd August 2024 at Kristu Jyoti Auditorium, this event was a delightful amalgamation of music, dance, games, and cultural performances, setting the perfect tone for a warm reception and fostering camaraderie among participants.The event began with a formal welcome address by the Principal, who introduced the new members to the mission and vision of Unnat Bharat Abhiyan. The speech emphasized the importance of teamwork, leadership, and community service, which form the core values of the UBA cell.Cultural Performances: A series of captivating performances by the university’s talented students created an atmosphere of joy and celebration. These included: dance performances and musical performances.To break the ice between new and existing members, a series of interactive games were organized.
On 24.1.2025, BSc Psychology Batch 1 and 2 students organized an orientation class on self-esteem and self-identity for the 8th-standard students at Thrickodithanam Government Higher Secondary School. The class was an interactive session, and students were encouraged to come forward and talk about their hobbies, dreams, and experiences. The class's main aim was to make students realize their self-identity and boost their self-esteem by providing tips on building confidence, and self-acceptance, maintaining healthy habits, improving focus and attention, improving impulse management, friendships and teamwork, and understanding mistakes.
The students of UNNATH BHARAT ABHIYAN visited Sneha Nivas convent, Fathimapuram, Changanacherry on 26th January 2025. Behalf of Republic day we had hosted the Indian flag. We spent a great time with the children. We had conducted many games including our students and with the children. Children really enjoyed all those games. We reached there by 10’oclock and we leaved there by 1’o clock.
The event at Alphonsa Sneha Nivas on 26th January was a heartwarming and well-organized initiative that had a positive impact on both the participants and the residents. The interactive sessions and cultural performances were well-received, bringing joy and a sense of belonging to the residents. The participants appreciated the opportunity to engage in meaningful social work and develop a deeper understanding of the value of compassion and service.The hospitality of the staff and residents made the experience even more memorable. Many attendees expressed their desire to participate in similar initiatives in the future. Overall, the event was a great success, fostering kindness, empathy, and community spirit.
The UBA Club organized an insightful session on Ccybersecurity education in Pioneer UP School, Ayarkaattuvayal, aimed at raising awareness about online safety in the digital age. The session highlighted key topics such as the importance of creating strong passwords, recognizing phishing attempts, avoiding cyberbullying, and protecting personal information on social media platforms. Through interactive activities and real-life examples, the children were educated on how to identify and respond to potential cyber threats. The session also emphasized responsible online behavior and the significance of reporting suspicious activities to trusted adults. The initiative received enthusiastic participation, fostering a foundational understanding of safe internet practices among the young audience.
The program was held to prepare volunteers for their role in supporting digital literacy initiatives and conducting the DigiKeralam survey. The program aimed to provide participants with essential knowledge, skills, and tools necessary to contribute effectively to the project's objectives. Participating in the Digi Kerala survey as a college UBA volunteer was a rewarding experience. It allowed the volunteers to engage with the community directly, understand their digital needs, and contribute to meaningful data collection. The process was well-organized, and it was gratifying to see how our efforts could potentially improve digital infrastructure and accessibility in Kerala. Overall, it was a valuable learning experience that enhanced my skills in data collection and community engagement.

Participants gain a better understanding of digital tools and platforms, leading to more effective and confident use of technology in both personal and professional settings. Individuals learn to recognize and mitigate online threats such as phishing, malware, and identity theft. They become adept at implementing security measures like strong passwords, two-factor authentication, and secure browsing practices.
Kristu Jyoti College of Management and Technology recently conducted a successful UBA (Unnat Bharat Abhiyan) activity on June 1st 2024, in Paippad Gramapanchayath. The initiative focused on distributing school stationery to school students. Two faculty members, along with enthusiastic students, organized the event. Mrs. Shainy Jojo, the Vice President of Paippad Grama panchayth was present. Essential items such as notebooks, pens, pencils, and other educational materials were handed out to the children. The aim was to support their education and ease the financial burden on their families. The event witnessed a heartwarming response from the community, with grateful parents and joyful students. This activity not only fostered a sense of social responsibility among the college students but also reinforced the institution's commitment to community development and educational support.
