After a hiatus of two pandemic years, Kristu Jyoti College of Management and Technology celebrated Onam on 27 August 2022, in the college premises with all its grandeur involving students and faculty. Flower carpets (Pookalam), Maveli, Onam songs, and games added hues to the celebration. Students and teachers arrived by wearing Kerala ethnic wears like Kasavu sarees, skirts, shirts and mundu marking the arrival of Onam. The celebration started with setting up of an attractive floral decoration (pookalam) in the reception area. Impressive designs and artistic creativity were the hallmarks of the Pookalam, which turned out to be mesmerizing and took everyone into a world of festivity and fun.
Rev. Fr. Joshy Cheeramkuzhy CMI, Principal, addressed the gathering and conveyed greetings and wishes of the festival. The arrival of Mahabali amid the beats of Shinkari Melam was well-received by the audience. Other attractions of the day were the Mega Tiruvathira, Fusion, Garuda Nirtham and other Dance performances. The programme was organised and coordinated by Mr. Jijo P John, Ms. Cina Mathew, Mr. Deepu C Vijay and Ms. Anu Joseph. Various competitions including Athappokkalam, Onam Corner, Sadhya Orukkal, Onappattu, sundariku pottukuthal, chakkil chattam and Malayali Manka/kairali purushan contest were conducted as part of the celebration. After the competitions, prizes were distributed which brought Onam celebration 2022 to an ideal close.
On the 26th of August 2023, Kristu Jyoti College celebrated the grand festival of Onam with a colourful and vibrant event titled "Orumayode Oronam." The festival, deeply rooted in Kerala's culture, was celebrated with great enthusiasm and zeal by the college community. The event featured a variety of competitions, cultural performances, and traditional rituals that showcased the rich heritage of Kerala. Competitions included "Malayali Manga and Kairali Purushan," where students dressed in traditional attire competed for titles, and an "Athapoo Competition" showcasing intricate flower rangolis. A singing competition featuring traditional Onam songs allowed students to showcase their vocal talents. The event began with the grand entry of King Mahabali, Maveli, accompanied by the rhythmic beats of Chendamelam. Traditional Thiruvathira dance by teachers added elegance. Students presented captivating dance performances, highlighting various dance forms, while a thrilling display of Kalaripayattu showcased Kerala's martial arts. Prizes for the various competitions were distributed by the Principal Rev. Fr. Joshy Cheeramkuzhy CMI. Payasam was distributed to the students and staff. "Orumayode Oronam" at Kristu Jyoti College was a magnificent celebration of Onam, capturing the essence of Kerala's rich cultural heritage and fostering a sense of unity and festivity among the college community.
